ALEXANDRU

 NESTOR

Unusual objects for an art gallery
This site is part of an adventure created by Sönke
Between Dada and Dali - Romanian artisan Alexandru Nestor is the creator of surrealist objects that initially resemble artistic furniture and objects of everyday use from the Arabian Nights. Cabinetmaker, tinsmith and shoemaker in one person, the artist primarily creates his works from wooden boxes, cupboard elements and casings which he uses as the basic pattern of his fantastic CD cabinets, watches, bureaus, barometers or hydrometers. By decorating them with shells, chips of rock, precious stones and test tubes, feathers, metal edgings and clockworks, old maps and coins, he creates a timeless mysticism of modernity. His works are composed of physical-metaphysical sense combinations that allude to the tradition of Dada and Dali, their dynamics powered by their natural creative power, play instinct and comical creativity that directly address the observer in an emotional and intellectual way.
